Create 3d text in Photoshop

Creating own 3d text has become really simple since introduction of CS6 version of Adobe Photoshop. There are different 3d options available in latest version of Photoshop which has broaden its scope for designers from different fields. Today we will look at how to create 3d text in Photoshop with few clicks.

Here’s a small example how you can create your own 3d Text:

Step 1:

We have taken following Image to add text “Meow” on it.

Step 2:

Right click on the text layer and select: “New 3D extrusion for layer” Option. A box pops up which says switch to 3d workspace. Click “yes” to begin.

Step 3:

After you switch to 3d workspace, you text layer is changed to 3d layer where a perspective grid appears on the canvas that defines the horizon and perspective of the text.

To move, scale and rotate the text use the gizmo cursor shown below:

There is also other extra options to rotate, scale, move, and twist images. Try this highlighted options.

Step 4:

With this feature of 3D Text, each layer of emboss/ thickness/Light effects are all placed in separate layers on 3d pallet.  Here you can add different kind of color texture and emboss effect to your 3D text.

Open the text layer on 3D pallet and select  layer with same text name.

Then go to Property palate and select any color of your choice on “Diffuse” box. Define the specular, illumation value that you want to use. You can also use texture image to wrap around the text to give different effect.

Step 5:

Now it’s time to give Light effects to the 3D text. Click “Infinite Light 1″ Layer on 3D palate. Drag the light handle and adjust light and shadow as per your requirement.

Now, Click Render button in 3D palate. You can cancel render any time by Pressing “ESC” on keyboard. Render Time may vary according different images.
